EUSA is grateful for the progress made by the movement calling for the closure of schools until it is safe to reopen, and appreciates the civil organisations, student organisations and individual activists who stood firm on this call.
More than 27 000 teachers wanted an independent union that could speak without fear — that is why EUSA was established. On 1 July the Union wrote to the World Health Organization asking for its intervention.
EUSA also clarified that its case in the North Gauteng High Court was not struck off the roll: the court ruled only that the matter was not urgent, without entering into its merits, and the case remains on the roll to be allocated a date.
A dead teacher cannot teach and a dead learner cannot learn.
